There is a down-side to blogging every day

...and that is that I have fallen way behind in answering any and all questions that anyone has posted via comment to me in the last few weeks. Not only that, I am sorely delayed in writing clever retorts to your funny comments and this makes me more than a little sad.

I still fully intend to update my 3 short stories about critters who came to visit blog post to include the name of that really cool little bird (Ruby Crowned Kinglet) that Lisa (who doesn't have a blog) and Linda Benson and Marigold the goat at Goat Philosophy 101 and Matt at Foothills Poultry and Paula at Weeding for Godot and Lynn at Razzberry Corner all graciously identified for me. I really had tried to ID this bird on my own. Google was no help whatsoever. But you all came to my rescue:

So, FYI: I am a perfectionist. This blogging-every-day-thing has been a real personal challenge for me; I am not a speedy blogger.

It takes me SO. DANG. LONG. to write, rewrite, edit, re-edit and - then - well, then there are all the pictures that I (try to wisely) choose to illustrate my stories (photo below taken with my cell phone as all other cameras were posing):

So. What I really want to say in my blog today is that every one of the comments I receive means so much to me. Your comments make me smile, make me snort, make me curious, make me laugh out loud, make me reach out to you, make me look things up and, mostly, above all else... make me feel grateful.

Your comments on my 3-part post on Beau's feet were powerful, informative and moving - I am so thankful to have this blogging medium to discuss my animals' stories. I learn so much from you every day.

I had something else in mind to blog about today:

but I realized this afternoon that, instead, I just really wanted to say: Thank you. (And, also, to please forgive me if I don't respond to questions and comments this month.)

Oh, and I also really want to tell CeeCee from My Little Bit of Heaven and Chris (who doesn't have a blog *yet*) that the type of deer in Story #3 is a Black-tailed Deer.

To "Amy" who has, on more than one occasion, asked me to come read her blog, I've been looking for you! Are you the Amy from Crazy for the Country? Most of the time, the name "Amy" comes into my comments without being a link, so I can't trace it back and I'm not sure whose blog to go read. Let me know!

And I really planned on writing the most humorous response EVER back to Chai Chai at Homestead...from Scratch when I described the roof panels blowing off my chicken run in my 5 Things post and she commented: "I can honestly say that I have never heard of a "chicken pasture" prior to this post. Your chickens have their own pasture?"

All I can say is, inside my head is a really funny place and Chai Chai is just going to have to imagine what HILARIOUS thing I was going to say in response to that. ha ha ha ha! Seriously, though? We have three fenced plots on our property that are referred to as: the "donkey pasture", the "middle pasture" and the "chicken pasture". I can't believe Chai Chai didn't know this yet. Sheesh.
:-)

Finally, for tonight's post on the downside to blogging every day, I want to say "Hi" to a variety of wonderful people who don't have their own blogs yet, but comment so kindly on mine:

Chris
"Jenny in MN (now in AZ)"
Diane (in Illinois) ♥

...and the numerous "anonymous", sweet commenters...

I love every single comment I get and am so appreciative of your readership, your support, your advice, and yes, your friendship.

Tomorrow: a post about those chickens in the cardboard box.

  1. Well today seems a good day to de-lurk! I've been reading your blog for a few months now, and without a doubt every post you do brings a smile to my face.

I ADORE your donkey lads, their faces absolutely slay me with their cuteness (who am I kidding, all your animals are adorable).

Am really loving the post a day. Thanks for the effort you're putting in, it's appreciated!

  2. I think that getting a comment is like getting a present. I once logged on and had four comments waiting for me and it was almost as good as a birthday!

You shouldn't worry about posting absolutely every day. I find that it's easiest to blog in Text Editor and then paste it in. And then use the preview feature- boy do I catch stuff there!

And thank you for your fun pictures and stories....

  4. LOL Dani. Yes, I'm Amy at www.crazyforthecountry.com I'm sorry I don't put the link in my comments, I just thought that you would see it in your info on your end. I don't like "spamming" my link because many blog owners don't like that :o) Personally, I don't mind blog owners leaving their links in comments on my blog.

I've so enjoyed your posting every day. I've been doing the same, and yes, it is time consuming, but I feel so good knowing that I am doing this :-) One thing I find that helps is to schedule posts. As I can, I write a few posts at a time that I know I want to share, and schedule them ahead of time. I also can't tell you how many drafts I have saved. When I have an idea, I quickly type unorganized thoughts into a draft then go back and complete the post later.
    Take Care :-)

  6. G'day Danni, that little bird was so cute, and the blogging world is so full of very informed people, who are always so willing to offer support and help. A great community.

Does it help that you only have 6 posts left to have blogged every day in January? Love the camera's they were so professional looking while you took their picture.

So you like my egg cups, I have no idea where they came from, they are old, not antique, but old enough, I have always loved them :D

  8. FINALLY, I see now who Thumper, Honey and Thumper are. :) I was beginning to think they were the three human visitors you recently had to the farm.
Thanks for the ID of the deer. I was thinking it might have been a mule deer because of those lovely ears.
I long ago ran out of things to blog about every day. I enjoy reading yours, whenever you have time for it.

  9. I can so relate to this. I'm way behind on my posting. Between work, yoga, working on the wedding, and sleep, I just haven't been able to find the time to get my blog posts up. I feel like such a bad blogger.

  10. I'm with you on the comments. They mean so much to me as well. It is so exciting to see how "whatever nonsense" I've blogged about leads to other conversations, thoughts and the love, oh the love it wonderful. So, I will thank you for coming to my blog and commenting. I hope you are as comfortable at any one of my three blogs and I am here at Critter Farm. I can hardly wait for the chicken in a box story. 11. It's amazing how often I catch myself saying, "my blogger friend in _____ said..." I learn so much from my bloggers friends, I find myself talking about them often, and I love it.

  12. The inside of my head sees the goat boys and the mules desperately breaking down fences and testing "twine faux fences" while trying to get into the lush "chicken pasture" after they have trampled and eaten their own pastures down to nothing.

I often wondered how you were able to get all those great pictures, I never would have imagined you had so many cameras.

I will be a bit sad when your blogging streak ends.

On the first picture of George at the door - is that a bird attacking him from behind?

  13. Don't ever worry about responding to my posts. Most of the time I just lurk but I agree with others when I say that I learn so much from the blogs that I have found and truly enjoy every picture, every post and all your kids. (I have to admit the donks are my weakness as I have one of my own!!)

  14. I can TOTALLY sympathize with you on trying to blog more this year, and how darn long it takes to get it done right! I too, have decided to blog more often. Miraculously, i have some regular readers and i decided that if i am going to do this blog thing, i am going to DO it better than i have these last few years. So, i am trying for 3-4 posts per week. Every day? I think i would be insane! hahaha Anyway, i love reading your blog post and visiting to see your wonderful photos, and i want to tell you that i appreciate your efforts for sure! Please kiss your donkeys for me! Take care...mare

  15. I had to comment on this one. I have you linked on my blog and I really enjoy your blogs. I especially liked the pics of the cameras, now I feel fortunate to only use 3 for mine.

  16. Oh, Oh, Oh, more chickens! Have I said that I love chickens! I was wondering about your deer friend. I know you have different types of deer than we have here on the eastern side of the country. I honesty don't know how you find time to post every single day. All I can say is that you are AMAZING. Thanks for all the info, laughs, tips, friendship, stories. I feel like I know you and your animals sometimes!

  18. A blog every day. I love it, and I know it's hard to do. But responding daily is also quite the task. I don't want to respond when I don't have anything clever, helpful or funny to say. So I think I'll stop here.

  19. I can't even imagine writing a blog every day..I just make a comment and have to reread it over and over, and I still make mistakes..you've done an amazing job..and I have so enjoyed reading your post every day..your pic's and stories put us all right there on the farm with you..and I walk away with a smile on my face to being able to escape to a different part of the world for just a moment..Thanks for that Danni:)

  20. Hear! Hear! Well spake in your first paragraph! :)

I adore my blog but it IS hard to properly keep up with comments and friends and doing what we came here for....which is writing! :)

If only there were more hours in the day!
    Yikes!
