One year ago

One year ago yesterday, I took these pictures.

One year ago today, I still had three of my six foster donkeys:

...and my index fingers and thumbs would be almost black at times from rubbing the insides of donkey ears. They loved this.

This time, one year ago, I had fallen completely and totally in love.

Today, I really miss my donkeys.
Pistol:

Ian:

and Brownie:

If I had things to do over again, I'd do some of them very differently.

I'd still have donkeys.

  3. They were such good guests of the Critter Farm . . . there are probably others waiting for you to mother them!

  4. Maybe some day you will have donkeys of your own. Can't you? I miss the donkeys so much too. But I'm glad to have found out what magnificient and noble animals they are.

  6. What do donkey's smell like? Do they smell like horses? Like goats? A little bit of each?

    Just wondering,

  7. How strange. Yesterday was the anniversary of when I came to live here on our farm. Well, you know, why don't you adopt one or two of those donkeys for yourself? I mean, you know, don't you, that donkeys are used as guard animals for goats? Sounds like a match to me. :)

  8. Wow Dani, it's pretty hard to make this old lady cry, but you did. Those photos and what you said..., you need some Donkey love.
You need to rub someones fuzzy ear again.

  9. Dani, you rock. I am sure there are other donkeys about who need to find some good homes, and if you let the word out that you are waiting for a donkey or 3 to find you, they will, because you are a great donkey Mom.

This makes me think of my friend Sabrina; her horse Tia was the Maid of Honor and mini donkey Skittle was the ringbearer at her wedding. It was so cute! Skittles came to Sabrina when he needed a new home, and somehow found her. You totally rock.

  10. If I didn't have so many horses, I'd get a donkey or two. I'd love to have a couple of Jerusalem donkeys, they are so beautiful.
Loved your post, first time visitor.

  11. Sigh.

This makes me sad to know that you are sad. I know how very much you love those donks. And how very much they loved you back.

Donkeys have become such a big part of who you are that I just know one day soon you will have some to call your own.

Youre the best donkey mama, danni.

  13. I'm guessing there was some falling out with the Donk rescue people. I'm sorry about that.
Maybe you should adopt a couple of your own? As Marigold pointed out, they are good guard 'dogs' for bitty goat boys.

  24. Has it only been a year?! It seems much longer ago than that. I miss them too. I want a donkey, darn it! Is there a reason why you're not able to welcome another donkey or two back into the fold?
