This is a donkey hand

Precisely what properties make up a donkey hand, you may be wondering. Notice the extremely grubby nature of the entire hand? This comes from the repeated rubbing, patting and petting of my beloved long ears.

Do you see the higher percentage of ground in dirt at the finger tips?:

This is a result of the oft-requested and highly appreciated act of donkey-bum scratching:

I've yet to meet a donkey that didn't LOVE this:

Depending on the situation, sometimes this scratching can go on for a very long time:

So, there you have it. A donkey hand:

  2. I would like to say that I haven't met a dog yet who doesn't like a good butt scratch (they like it just above the tail) but I did once- he snapped at me and I found out later he had something wrong with that end of his anatomy. But I still scratch dog butts every time I meet a new one, once we get to know each other in the few milliseconds it takes a dog to sniff your hand and decide you're alright. There is something wonderful about the bond you create giving an animal a good scratch on the hiney. I think I would scratch a donkey hiney, were I to meet with one. It's good to know ahead of time where they prefer it done.

How funny- this comment's captcha phrase is 'gringst'. That sounds like what's on your hand!

  6. Too funny, mine look like that all the time. There is also a big difference on the donkey turning around to kick or to turn around and back up to you to get their butts scatched...Too funny.

  7. I completely understand the concept of a donkey hand! :)

While Bernard has long known, Ellsworth has just in the last week discovered the beauty of a good bum-scratch. And he's not afraid to repeatedly request them now.

  12. I know Donkey Hand all too well.

I brought Honky in on Sunday to give her a good brushing. When back outside, she promptly went to roll in the manure pile. She seemed proud of herself.

    wv: bilescal. Mmmmm.

  13. Thats nice and grubby! I love it when I have donkey hands!
Donkey bum scratching is the best...it always makes me smile to see them keep backing up and backing up...altho, rubbing those long ears is fun, too. Especially when it makes their lips turn all sweet and wobbly.... :-)
