Potatoes and Noodles

Doesn't this just look delicious? In our house, this makes twelve 7-week-old chicks extremely happy.

My girls (and boy) are now fully feathered, way too big for their brooder box, and still cheep and peep like newborn chicks. They are my sweethearts.

This new favorite treat is one that I just happened upon because I had some leftovers. How fun. I love not having things go to waste. Mashed potatoes and spaghetti delights them beyond anything else they've had so far, rivalling even the garden worm!

Watching them devour this combo is such a spectacle, it deserves the posting of a new chicken video:

I'm going to have to start wearing gloves when I feed them, their pecking HURTS! :-)

  2. Very fun! Chicken carbs! It's fun and gratifying to have them eat out of your hand. I usually just put the messy stuff in a big terra cotta dish and let them peck at it that way. Not as much fun though. It's good to hear them peep and you laugh. They really are your feathered babies.

  3. Who wouldn't like potatoes and noodles? Our ladies love noodles, but I don't think we've ever given them potatoes. We'll have to remember that!

  4. I love it when they get a treat and then go running around to find a quiet place to eat it out of site, but they can't pick a good spot because EVERY place is too close, and then they drop it, and I laugh. What amazingly dumb little critters.

  5. Those two wig wearing chicks cracked me up so bad that the kids ran in to see what was so funny. They weren't as impressed as me, I don't know, my kids don't have the potty dreams either, switched at the hospital? Maybe.

  7. FANTASTIC!!! Little garbage disposals!! My best friend keeps a paper plate handy in the kitchen for all chicken edible scraps.
They are a riot with their little peeps!!!
Now get them in that coop!!!!

  8. Isn't that great! It's even better than composting isn't it? I love the video. Does this mean you're back?

  9. Those girls (and boy) are yours for life. Once you are the treat giver, they'll run to you from anywhere on your property.
Isn't it fun to sit and watch them? All of the sudden it's "Where did the time go?"

  10. WOW, they really love those potatoes and spaghetti! We give our chickens a lot of leftovers we have...cantaloupe, noodles, salad, veggies and fruits...and CORN! They absolutely LOVE to eat the corn on the cob-we give them whatever is leftover on the corn after we eat, and they pick out all the little pieces...but their favorite thing of all is dandelions...good thing, it grows in large quantities! :D

  12. Our girls love the noodles, too.
IT's funny to see them running amok with the noodles dangling from their beaks! hehe

I've not yet given them mashed potatoes because we never seem to have any leftovers.

When I first saw the pic on this post, I thought you were sharing one of your delicious recipes. hehe
