Here are just a few amazing things I've seen this month...
A spider with the most incredible long legs:
My donkey, Chester, giving a Critter Farm visitor the biggest face kiss I've ever seen:
Roxy, my farm pup, trying really hard to relax knowing that George the Unpredictable is lying right behind her:
My barn, all ready for the wet season(s), fully stocked with 1 ton (50 bags) of stall bedding (there was a great sale at my local farm store, yay!):
A naughty donkey, momentarily losing his mind and forgetting that, on Critter Farm, we try to be kind to everyone:
What an empty stall bedding bag looks like crammed full with three years worth of hay baling twine:

And we're only half way through the month!
Now that was like taking a walk around the place, and I'm always ready for that!

First thing I noticed is the sunny sky. I do hope this winter is not like last winter for you! I declare a warmer and dryer winter for the PNW. The end.

My goodness your barn is clean and tidy. Only a dream for me!! Do you give the chickens alfalfa at all? I had someone tell me the other day she does, curious to know if you do.

ReplyDeleteAutumn - When I haltered Kai up yesterday for her goat walk, I gave her a neck pat just for you. She glared at me. So then I gave her a carrot and told her that was from you, too. She liked that much better. :-)
Christine, California Grammy, and Staci - So funny how you commented on my "clean" barn. Just a few days before I hauled in all that stall bedding, I had given it its fall cleaning and de-junking. Thanks for noticing! :-)
Staci - I do not feed anybody alfalfa. I have never heard of giving it to chickens. How interesting - I'll have to look that up.
Farmer Jen - I did keep a small pile of that baling twine, but during my fall barn clean-up last week, I felt it was time for the majority of it to go-go-go! After three years, I had only re-used a bit of it, so I figured I was safe with my recycling choice. lol
I love how you found places to stack bags and bags of bedding! I bought a pallet of similar bedding two years ago... and still have some left! I cherish it!

ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful how much you can catch with a camera as long as you stay alert with nature and your critters. I haven't had a computer all summer, so I may steal you idea here and do a summer photo post. Just to catch up. Great to visit Critter Farm again.

ReplyDeleteLove all the photos, All the animals look like they are having a great time & doing very well. Wish I could stock up on bedding for my chickens for winter. 1 day I hope to have the space for it but for now I can get a couple months worth in what space I do have so that does cut down on trips for supplies.

ReplyDeleteTo the comment about evil black and white cats. I love them. I have had 8 B&W cats and 7 totally black cats among the 22 I have had in my life. I also have a B&W border collie. And a B&W pinto pony as well an all black pony.
ReplyDeleteSo what recycle place takes all that baling twine. I have that much in about 4 months since i feed 2 horses and 3 ponies that have no pasture at all. I feel like we have tons of the stuff and very little re-use for it. I am open to ideas as it seems so wastefull to throw it out.
Hi Window on the Prairie: That's Pete, one of my rambunctious little boy goats, that Chester is being so rude to! Chester doesn't care much for animals smaller than he, so I've been working with him on that. That picture is an example of when his and my communication breaks down momentarily. lol

I am able to recycle my plastic feed bags and my baling twine at Wilco, our local farm store. Do you have those where you are?
