Such a silly thing really
Once upon a time (yesterday morning), I went into the chicken run to give the chickens fresh water. A small stump that I had (ridiculously) positioned next to the coop a few weeks ago...:
tipped over after I went into the run...:
and blocked the door. It wedged itself in such a way that I couldn't open the door far enough to fit my hand through to move the stump. It was an uncomfortably helpless feeling to realize that I was completely stuck:
Though it did leave me with a bit of quality time to spend with my girls:
and Roopert:
Fortunately, I had my cell phone (and my camera). And it was the weekend, so when I made my call, someone was there to answer:
All (chicken) eyes turned at the sound of the footsteps:
of my sweet husband coming to my rescue:
He kindly moved that stump so I could get out. It only looks in the picture below like he's wedging it tighter. And he really only laughed at me for a little bit about getting stuck in the first place:
And now that stump is no longer next to the chicken run door.
The end.

That is really funny. How did you like being, ahem, "cooped" up?
ReplyDeleteHa ha.... nice one.
ReplyDeleteYour husband must be like 'Wilson' on Home Improvement except one only sees the bottom half of him. Oy.
ReplyDeleteHuzzah for the hubby. I did that once with the garage door. It is an awful feeling...oops did I do that????????

I sure do enjoy your pictures and your animals. I am a city girl but envy those of you who do what you do.
Ok. That's funny in so many ways: You were locked in the coop, you had your camera with you, and your phone, and you had the sense to take pictures of the event at a variety of times. You are funny, Danni. By the way, if you had 1 trick or treater you are ahead of us here in the city...
ReplyDeleteSo funny. Good thing that you came prepared.
ReplyDeleteI got locked in my dads coop and locked out of mine. Both times I had to squeeze through the chicken door.
Congratulations on your early release. Arent hubbies wonderful rescuers?
ReplyDeleteThis is so totally something that would happen to me!!! Glad you had your phone and camera!

Great story! I bet everybody was sorry to see you leave tho. Glad you had your cell phone or you might still be there!
ReplyDeleteHa ha ha ha ha! Not such a bad place to get stuck, huh!? My girls are always getting pieces of squash and corn cobs wedged underneath their door. I have a funny feeling that sooner or later I won't be able to get their door open... but I've never considered what would happen if I got myself stuck inside.
ReplyDeleteWhat great luck that you had your camera with (well, and your cell phone).
Another happy ending to a great story! I'm sure your girls loved the company.
ReplyDeleteokay....so this is what would be going on in my head and most likely coming out of my mouth: really????? seriously God?????? stuck in a chicken coop???? and I gotta pee????? (b/c I would have had to....happens in all awkward situations for me)
ReplyDeleteso thanks for sharing one of your "seriously??????"moments with us
That happened to me in the greenhouse once. It was kinda scary. No phone. My wife was away for the day. I was able to get out after awhile, but still.
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I guess I should start carrying my phone around with me.
ReplyDeleteKnapsack with supplies each time you go out from now on :D
ReplyDeleteFunny Danni! Who da thunk it? such a little log.
ReplyDeletehaha, great story! The chickens didn't mind the company!!
ReplyDeletehaha...chicken vs man.....and the chickens won one!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad sweet hubby was home to come rescue you.
ReplyDeleteWell, there are worse places to get trapped, I suppose. You know what they say...there are no accidents.
ReplyDeleteSorry, giggle giggle, but laughing hysterically at this post!!! So, since you had some time to spend with the chickens, what did they have to say?
ReplyDeleteYour grandmother in Germany once locked herself in a bathroom in a department store. The store closed for the weekend, and she was stuck. Ask me sometime how she got out.
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you always have cell phone and camera with you when you venture out into your animal kingdom. Accidents can happen, and I'm relieved this was a minor one. And a very funny one!!!
Thank goodness for cell phones, cameras and sweet husbands who come to the rescue!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! How funny! And, I thought these things only happened to me :) My husband would have enjoyed telling that story for many years!
ReplyDeleteOh....what a sweet story. At least you made the best of the situation!! I bet those girls loved having you around for a while though.
ReplyDeleteThanks for making me smile.

LOL, I got stuck inside out coop once. No cell phone. I just got lucky when they (the humans) finally noticed I was MIA.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for happy endings! And for the fact that you had your camera with you. :)
ReplyDeleteFunny story. It's a good thing you had your phone! I often carry my camera around when I'm outside, but now I think I'll have my phone too every time I'm out there too!

This reminds me of the time my daughter walked out of the chicken house and locked me in. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera or a cell phone. It took me an hour to dismantle the window and cut the wires so I could climb out. I like your situation better.
ReplyDeleteHilarious! What would you have done without your cell phone, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteOh dear, glad you were rescued. I accidentally locked my husband in the chicken coop a couple of months ago, and he had to break out all by himself! Love the pics.
ReplyDeleteOh, how lucky your husband was home AND you had your phone on you! I rarely carried mine with me when we had the farm in Oregon. The mare we had at the time would spook and kick at the sound of it ringing so I learned to not carry it with me. (Silly Arabs!) But after reading this, I will make sure I always carry my phone with me just in case!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! I could totally see that happening to me. Wonderful argument for why you should always carry a camera and a cell phone when you head out to feed the critters. Thanks for the laugh! -Carrie
ReplyDeleteoh funny! Sounds like something I might do. At least you got to have some quality time with your girls. ;)
ReplyDeleteour chicken door latches from the outside. I have been locked in several times. That's why now hubby has installed me an emergency get out of the hen house string which is connected to the latch outside. Smart man.
ReplyDeleteOh my, I hate feelings like that. When you know you are stuck and can't get out. At least you had wonderful company and the hubs was home! The chickens are beautiful :)
