The Indecision of February 22nd

I woke up to this:

Fed critters to this:

Watched it transition to this:

Only to feel suddenly really warm when it did this:

The sunshine drew both George and me to the garden:

Where we stopped to admire the garlic. Get out of the way, George, so we can see the garlic:

There it is:

On our way back to the house, George stopped to admire his reflection in the deck windows. Look how handsome he is:

We then both peeked over the edge of the deck to see what the chickens were up to. They were in the middle of some serious sun-worshipping:

Just in the nick of time, too - because then, this happened:

And the whole cycle started over again.

The next few days are looking to be pretty consistent, though, so I guess indecision isn't always a bad thing:

  1. Wow! Looks like you're gonna get some snow. Glad you had some sunshine today to get you through the rest of the week.

  2. Yeah, here too. At one point it was hailing, raining and snowing -- all at the same moment!

  3. It's going to be such a bummer if the valley floor doesn't get snow!!!

  4. Ok I thought it was Texas that had four seasons in one day. The series of photos are amazing. Love the water dripping down through the 'thingie majig for a housior whatsit" into the watering can :D George looks like he has made himself well and truly at home, lovely to see.

  5. Oh no! This has been one of the snowiest winters I can remember. Looks like George is a camera hog! He is a handsome fellow.

  6. We had about 7 inches yesterday of "that stuff". I so want Spring to begin.

Great pics! George is right to stop and admire himself as he passes. He is handsome!

  7. That is pretty much a typical day in Indiana. Well, other than the fact that you have green things shooting from the ground in February.

George really is a handsome guy, hard to believe someone would leave him behind. Is Clyde still hanging around?

  8. Oh boy.....doesn't make for very happy animals!! I have to agree with George - he is a handsome fella. I see from your forecast you've got a whole week of the "good stuff". Yuck!

  9. As if you don't already know, but your extended forecast sucks eggs.
I think Mother Nature needs some hormone replacement therapy.

  10. i heard that you were getting bunches of snow...stay warm!!!

  11. We actually have snow predicted here on the Oregon coast (about 30 miles from California). Since we never ever get it, I am hoping and praying it sticks, at least for one day!

  12. George is certainly a handsome fellow! He seems to be adapting to life with you as if it was always that way.

It's warm here in Georgia these days, but I find myself nostalgic for the snow. I'll get over that when I put my peas and beets in this weekend!

  13. Gotta love western Oregon in the winter/spring - never know what will happen. All the bulbs coming up and still it keeps trying to snow...

  14. Nooo!!! What a tease! Hopefully you absorbed enough vitamin D and sunny warmth to last you through the week. What an ugly forecast!

George is such a handsome fellow. You really lucked out having such a great critter show up at your door :D And he's lucky he chose the right house! How is that shy long haired tabby doing?

  15. EWWWWWwwwwwwwwwwww!!

At least you made the most of the sunshine while you had it!

I love how George has become a member of the family...

  16. Reminds me of when I lived in the Colorado mtns. Often 'thunder snow' this time of year. I love it! Love George checkin himself out! He is so cute!

  17. Waiting for the big snow storm to hit here.
LOVE the painting of Chester and Beau. We have a painting of Arnold, Cookie and Doughnut a friend of a friend gave us. Oh wait, I think you seen it when you and Jim came to visit.
Don't beat yourself up about Roxy's mats. Love her new attire. HOw sweet of Denny and Buddy.
Can you tell I am playing catch up!

  18. Alas, we will be stuck in the barn as well. By the way, did the old chickens ever accept the new chickens??? Did the goat boys stop THE GREAT ESCAPE???

  19. George is a mighty handsome kitty, indeed. Your weather is amazingly strange . . . all in one day! We've had sunny days interspersed with rainy and even a snowy day here in our mountain in Central California. But we just go with the flow since there's not a darn thing we can do about it except enjoy the sun when it does appear. Stay warm! This too shall pass and spring will be here soon.

  20. love that cat!

isn't that just like oregon weather? my favorite: when it's raining and sunny at the same time.

  21. It looks like someone just shook a huge can of talcum powder from up above all over your farm..how pretty!!!
Your handsome boy George, looks like he's feeling right at home at his new spread..
    Lovin the pic's Danni..keep them coming<3

  22. Ok, out of the corner of my left eye I see big, fat snow flakes. In my right eye's vision is a gray, dark day.
The forecast is truly confusing, but it is definitely going to drop the temperature at night into the teens. We brought potatoes and onions into the guest room. Any guest arriving will have to camp out by the roaring fire my husband has been promising me.
The corner of my left eye is now agreeing with my right eye's vision.

  23. and I am so ready for March Madness and February to be over!! Enough with these cold blasts we're getting. -16 degrees is just ridiculous!! We don't see green grass here until it has warmed the soil a little and that will be later in April. I always get a thrill to see green sprout up..it just cheers the soul. It has to be pretty warm in the soil there to have your garlic already starting? Spring..It'll be here..It'll be here!!

  24. Hey, that looks like our weather report too in Southern Oregon Cascades. Glad to know we won't be the only ones socked with some snow. LOVE the long ears and what a great oil painting in the last post. Just wonderful!

  25. We've been getting some crazy weird weather lately, too. They're warning us about a dramatic drop in temperatures here by the end of the week. Eeek!

I think George is absolutely gorgeous. Where's the other fella, these days?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Brrr! Keep your critters warm. And you, too!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Most definitely caused by Global Warming!

  28. Mother Nature does seem to be particularly fickle these days! I thought of you when I heard Al Roker talk about the snow in the NW. Hope everyone is surviving.

George looks like he has settled down as the BCOC (big cat on campus)! Whatever happened with the other kitty?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Really?!?! Good golly!!!

George is waaaay handsome. You are so awesome at telling stories through pictures.

  30. Crazy weather here too. Great photos and story, Danni. I love seeing George and your garlic shoots.

  31. Is that a polydactyl kitty you have there? :) And what is that you're using on the roof of your outdoor chicken run? We have this mesh stuff that failed the winter snow test! :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Knatolee,
George is not polydactyl, he just has really big feet. :-) You should see them when he "kneads" things...they get even bigger. :-)

The roof of my chicken coop is chicken wire covered with plastic roofing panels on top. We have so much rain here, we needed to cover their run or my poor chickens wouldn't get outside 6 months of the year. I got them at Home Depot, but here is a link describing them: http://www.palramamericas.com/Suntuf
