In matters of tuna, chicken trumps cat

When it comes to tuna treats on the front porch...:
apparently, chickens are the more dominant species:
Not only did Skippy-the-hen devour Clyde-the-cat's portion, she was hungry enough to go for George's plate, too:
And George seemed more than willing to relinquish it to her:
I had no idea chickens liked tuna:
Don't worry, though...once Skippy had her fill, she finally allowed Clyde in to lap up the tuna crumbs:
Though she did insist on coming back to inspect his work:

  2. Wow. That really is something.
I never would have thought, either.
Hope the kitties found something else to eat. :)

  4. I have long said that chickens are really just little dinosaurs. My cat will back down from the chickens every single time--no matter what.

  5. Another cute series of photos. I have given tuna to my chickens at times, as well as chicken and pork. They are such little carnivores!

  6. I love reading about your animals. We too have a lot of animals. They make life fun, each with it's own distinct personality.

  7. I have to say that Clyde looks a bit like the Pekingese that won the Westminster Kennel Club show!

  8. This post reminded me a cat I had named Tuna Fish!

  9. Another chicken that has struck out on her own?

The cats are going to get tired of the chickens version of "Occupy Porch".

  10. Poor Clyde! I think that Skippy is an Alpine chicken!

  11. That is some chicken, I've never heard of chickens eating tuna. Makes you wonder what exactly is in a can of tuna. Good Sunday to you Danni, by the way how is Miss Roxy the birthday Pup?

  13. Hmm maybe her liking for fish comes from the olden days...cause lots of Birds eat fish....or maybe you just have a strange Chicken LOL :)

  14. Who woulda thunked it. Tuna? Ms. Skippy is quite the gourmet diner. And ya gotta give it to both the kitties for being such polite sharers of the bounty. Oma Linda

  15. Some chickens consider canned cat food a treat as well. They eat bugs and worms for meat protein, why not fish, too? So funny that Skippy is so bold as to take over the cats' dishes though.

  16. Chickens will eat anything, including other chickens! Bleurgh! My cat Jinx wouldn't stand for sharing her dinner, she'd give them chooks a clip around the ear! She takes great delight in scaring my girls, she hides in the long grass and leaps out at then as they walk past! So naughty! lol

  17. A friend of mine has large parrots. They feed them chicken legs, commenting to them, "Don't you have any idea what you are eating?!"
So... I guess birds can be omnivores.... and heck, chickens eat bugs and stuff, so why not?!
I love that the cats back off.

  18. is this the same little Skippy who was afraid of the cabbage or whatever it was that she wouldn't peck at in your chicken video. You go girl. Another inspiration from a farm animal :)

and poor little Clyde!! But I see that he is letting you get closer to him for pictures now!

    thanks for the smiles :)

  19. Ok, here is another chicken that doesn't know she is a chicken. She is not only color blind, but species blind. I love it. It should be a universal human quality as well.

George acting so nonchalant and Clyde giving up his morsels makes me think that Skippy said something so disarming to them that they gave up their treats willingly. Just look at George stretching and then washing his left paw with his tail wrapped around his other feet!

Incredible photos and SO Critter Farmish.

  21. We had a handful of backyard chickens, a few years ago. They can be so entertaining, and not a little fierce! Ours peacefully shared our yard with 3 dogs. The dogs learned pretty quickly who was boss! I really enjoy the pics of your menagerie!
